Dr. Sudha Yadav was sworn in as Karnataka’s new Governor at Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru on October 16, 2026, becoming the state’s second woman Governor. The oath-taking ceremony was administered by Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru in the presence of Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and other leaders, marking the formal transition of the state’s gubernatorial office.

Yadav’s appointment by President Droupadi Murmu comes as she succeeds Thaawarchand Gehlot. Following the swearing-in ceremony, she received a guard of honour and paid her respects at the National Military Memorial.

A PhD chemist from IIT Roorkee, Yadav entered public life after her husband, BSF Deputy Commandant Sukhbir Singh Yadav, died in the 1999 Kargil War. She subsequently served as a Member of Parliament and a BJP board member, building her public and political career following the personal loss.

Her journey from an academic background to public service and political responsibilities has been a defining part of her career. The oath-taking ceremony in Bengaluru formally completed the transition from Gehlot’s tenure to Yadav’s appointment as Karnataka’s new Governor.
